Welcome!

This site is dedicated to providing a clear, comprehensive, and up-to-date guide to Confrontation Analysis—what it is, how it works, and why it matters.

Confrontation Analysis has evolved significantly over the years. While there’s a fair amount of information available online, much of it is outdated. One of the key figures behind its development, Professor Nigel Howard, made major changes to the original Version 1 shortly before his passing, resulting in Version 2. Since then, the method has continued to develop, and this website presents the latest version—Version 2.5.

Here, you’ll find:

  • A straightforward explanation of Confrontation Analysis

  • Practical examples showing how it’s applied

  • Guidance on using it with or without the Dilemma Explorer program

Whether you're a researcher, strategist, student, or simply curious, this site is designed to help you understand and apply Confrontation Analysis effectively.

Since retiring after working on and off for 13 years on this subject, I am writing this website as a legacy to the world.  Therefore everything here is public domain and copyright-free. Feel free to use, share, or build upon any of the content however you like.

I hope you find it useful and engaging—explore the site, learn the method and see what insights you uncover!

My Story

For over 25 years, I’ve been immersed in the fascinating world of Confrontation Analysis—a unique approach to understanding and navigating strategic interactions. My journey began under the mentorship of Professor Nigel Howard, one of the field’s original pioneers. After his passing in 2008, I continued to develop and refine the methodology independently, driven by a deep belief in its potential to illuminate complex decision-making.

Along the way, I’ve worked both independently and as a defence analyst with the UK’s Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl), applying Confrontation Analysis to real-world challenges. One of my proudest achievements is the creation of Dilemma Explorer, an Excel-based tool designed to make this powerful method more accessible and practical for analysts, strategists, and curious minds alike.

Now retired, I’ve built this website as a comprehensive, user-friendly hub for Confrontation Analysis Version 2.5—a much-needed resource for anyone looking to understand, apply, or explore this compelling framework. Whether you're new to the concept or a seasoned practitioner, I invite you to dive in and discover how Confrontation Analysis can transform the way you think about conflict, negotiation, and decision-making.
